Itinerary

We leave home after breakfast and travel the short journey to Carlisle with a short stop in Penrith on the way for a leg stretch. We arrive early afternoon with time to settle down before our evening meal. This is a full packed holiday with three full day excursions. We head to Longtown and make the scenic journey to Kielder Water and Forest Park with a short visit to the visitor centre before heading off to Bellingham and Hexham with its spectacular abbey. Return to the hotel along the Hadrian’s Wall Path. Another day joins the Cumbrian Coastline train in Carlisle to Ravenglass where we then join the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway running seven miles of the Lake District from the coast to the foothills of England’s highest mountains. We have a cheerful day in Kirkby Lonsdale for free time in the market town then travel past the immense Ribblehead Viaduct through Horton in Ribblesdale to Settle. Saving the best until last, we take the most spectacular trin journey on the famous Settle to Carlisle line. We take in the majestic scenery back to our Carlisle base.
