Cotswolds: All Aboard for Broadway

From: Saturday, May 23, 2020
To: Wednesday, November 27, 2019
5 Days

About the Trip

Steam trains have come back to Broadway! Fifty eight years after it closed, the railway station in the beautiful Cotswold village of Broadway re-opened in spring 2018. This tour also showcases the other unique village of the Cotswolds, the elegant Regency town of Cheltenham and a second ride on the magnificent Severn Valley Railway to the Victorian town of Bridgnorth. The tour is based in the historic canal town of Stourport.

We travel to Worcester stopping for lunch en route. On arrival in Worcester, a local guide will meet to welcome your group for an introductory tour of Worcester on foot, which will give the perfect introduction of the historic city ahead of the group’s free day on day three. Afterwards the group will travel back by coach to their hotel in Stourport-on-Severn which will be their base for the duration of their stay.

We have a day excursion to Bridgnorth to board the first of nostalgic trains of the Severn Valley Railway, travelling to Kidderminster. We also visit the pretty town of Ludlow with its delightful narrow lanes, shops and impressive castle. We enjoy a free day in the historic city of Worcester. We also travel to Cheltenham for time in the lovely Regency town with its wide Promenade, beautiful Imperial Gardens and stylish Montpellier areas. At midday we board a steam train for a journey through the delightful Gloucestershire countryside to Toddington. After a lunchtime break in Toddington, we continue our train journey to Broadway, one of the gems of the Cotswolds. Re-board the coach for a meander through the gorgeous villages of Broadway, Stow-on-the-Wold and Bourton-on-the-water. We return home on our final day stopping for refreshments en route.

Our Choice of Hotel

The Stourport Manor Hotel is a lovely Victorian stately home in the Midlands with a lot of history attached to it. Once home to Stanley Baldwin, Prime Minister three times between 1923 – 1927, it’s welcomed many dignitaries over the years. Now a beautiful hotel kissing the edge of Birmingham and within easy reach of Worcester and the Malvern hills. The hotel has attractive grounds and excellent leisure facilities. There is no lift in this hotel.
