The Outer Hebrides - Autumn ColoursFrom: Sunday, October 8, 2017
To: Saturday, October 14, 2017
About the Trip
A shoulder season break that makes the most of the richness of the spring and autumn colours that can be witnessed on these fascinating, and contrasting islands. The months of April and October are delightful times to island-hop, with usually pleasant weather, quieter roads, great views and of course, considerably lower prices.
We travel north and have lunch on our way to Stirling and our hotel for our first overnight stop. We continue through the Cairngorms and Speyside, then stop in the Highland capital of Inverness, before we continue through gorgeous scenery to Ullapool, for an early evening crossing to Stornoway and a late dinner at the hotel. The next day we have a wonderful guided excursion around the Isle of Lewis, viewing Blackhouses, amazingly still lived in until recently, “Scotland’s Stonehenge” at Callanish, and a historic “Broch” at Carloway. On day 4, we leave and enjoy more scenery as we travel from Harris to Lewis and the tiny port of Leverburgh. We cross to Berneray then travel through North Uist to our hotel on the island of Benbecula. On day 5, we have another guided excursion visiting Benbecula and the Uists, including a fascinating local museum. On day 6, we travel to the port of Lochmaddy, and board the ferry for a beautiful sea crossing over the Little Minch, to the Isle of Skye. The afternoon will then be spent travelling through spectacular scenery through Skye and over the bridge to the mainland, then via Glen Shiel, Loch Lochy, Glen Coe and alongside Loch Lomond to a final overnight stop near Glasgow. On day 7 it’s homeward bound, with a stop for lunch on the way.
